Message from opcmsg not reaching HPOM console

Note: HP renamed the product called now HP operations manager way too many times. Also it is very inconsistent with using abbreviations. Here we will assume that the term "HP Operations manager" and abbreviations HPOM, OMU, and OVO  mean the same thing :-)

You need to differentiate between the agent installed on nodes and the agent installed on the server. Agent on the server usually has different set of policies then the agent on the nodes and has less chances to block opcmsg messages.

First check is whether the message is delivered on the HPOM server via server agent. It on the server messages is delivered but on the client it is not it's one game.  If in both cases message is not delivered it's another.

[Nov 23, 2010]  opcmsg message sent to the manager from its own agent is not reaching it.

Hi all,

For some reason I cannot fathom, the message (opcmsg) sent to the manager from its own agent is not reaching it.

I have checked the redirections in use, and these messages should not be intercepted.

I also have checked from another agent and the messages sent from another agent reach the manager.

Here comes my ovconfget. If you need further information on the system to have an idea about this, please ask.

Check your policies. If you don't have any opcmsg policy, which can show you "unmatched" messages, you will not see them. Either you have "suppress unmatched" conditions or none of policies has "forward unmatched to server" ticked

Jean-Bernard

Shame on me...
The opcmsg(1|3) policy was disabled.
Thanks for the tip :)

Hi.

Is this about communication issues or about discarded messages? For the former there should be an error or at least the agent shall report that it's buffering.

For the latter you debug such things (use 'strings' tool) by looking in:

1. the "msgagtq" file on the agent.

2. the "msgmgrq" file on the server.

Depending on where you see the message, you continue with your troubleshooting with different steps.

Regards,
Goran
