You can do re-registration using Novell Customer center in YaST. But that's tedious if you manage more then a dozen systems.  The alternative is to use batch registration/registration which is possible using  suse_register

Most often in corporate environment there is a single registration code for all Suse boxes (your_company_reg_number).  Sometimes it is two or more codes (if additional licenses were bought during the year).

In this cases all you need to register/reregister server in batch mode using suse_register. You need to supply two parameters the code and your email address (should be indentical to the address in your Novell account):

suse_register -a regcode-sles=your_company_reg_number -a email=YourEmailAddress

You can do it also in GUI via YAST: see page 1-39 of your course 3072 on how to do it with YAST

You generally do not need to do anything on Novell site like assign groups unless you want to.

Moving systems to new  activation code at the end of support contract

Each year the Novell registration code that Novell provided with your support contract expires and you need to move systems from the old registration code to a new registration code (the latter is provided with the support contact for the next year). Here is pretty convoluted procedure on how to do it:

If this does not work then you can use another trick.

How to register SLE 10 using the command line

This document (3030847) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10
Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10

Situation

Registration through a command line utility is needed because registering (or activating) the system through YaST (Novell Customer Center Configuration) is not working or the customer requires a command line solution.

Resolution

The following examples of thesuse_registercommand can be used to perform the registration:

For SLED 10:

suse_register -a regcode-sled=YourActivationCode -a email=YourEmailAddress

For SLES 10:

suse_register -a regcode-sles=YourActivationCode -a email=YourEmailAddress

Additional Information

suse_register --helpwill list all available options.

to get debug for problems:

suse_register -d 3 -a regcode-sles=YourActivationCode -a email=YourEmailAddress > d3.log 2>&1

Troubleshooting

Registration process in Suse 10 is seriously buggy and confusing if you are behind the proxy.  In enterprise Suse 10 before SP1 you can succeed only using tech. support. SP1 fixed some most glaring holes but still the process quality remains much to be desired...

Novell support as for making updates work is weaker then Red Hat (which is equally buggy in RHEL4 but at least support is good).
